Servants of Christ are in the transformation business. This kind of transformation will only happen if we refuse to be seduced by false idols like success, money, fame and security - to be the church we were called to be. We need to take ownership of the problems around us and work with people who are suffering in order to find solutions and offer lasting change. Patrick travels the globe to find examples. In Bolivia he reports how Christian backing for education projects is allowing families to find a way out of poverty. In London XLP is mentoring young people to turn aside from violence. In Los Angeles a new future is being offered to gang girls. In high security prisons in the UK and US the Spirit is turning lives around. In Belfast's Shankill Road area a group of elderly ladies is cooking meals for men who sit all day in local pubs ... the list is extensive, and inspiring. The common element is that in all circumstances Christ is offering hope. 'As Christians there is no ceiling to the hope we can bring, even when things look bleak,' Patrick says. 'Extreme poverty has been halved in the last 30 years. This book encourages and challenges the church to think and act creatively to eradicate all types of poverty and suffering.'
Patrick Regan OBE is the founder and CEO of Kintsugi Hope, a charity which aims to create safe and supportive spaces for those suffering from emotional and mental health challenges. After Patrick and his family went through a series of personal trials and ill health, Patrick decided to step down from his previous role as CEO at XLP, another charity supporting young people, to create Kintsugi Hope. Patrick has travelled to over thirty countries working with, and on behalf, of the poorest communities and is a regular contributor on radio and TV shows where he discusses important issues like poverty and justice. He received the Mayor of London Peace Award in 2010 for his valuable contribution towards peace and justice and was also awarded an OBE from her Majesty the Queen for services to young people. Patrick is a passionate communicator and equally at home on the main stage at major UK political party conferences, engaging in robust debates in the media, connecting with business and community leaders, speaking to inmates in a maximum security prison or gang leaders in Jamaica. He is the author of five books. His two books publishd by Monarch Books are No Ceiling to Hope and When Faith Gets Shaken. |Liza Hoeksma is a writer who has been involved with Soul Survivor for over ten years. She has co-authored several books including Conspiracy of the Insignificant with Patrick Regan, and WorshipEvangelismJustice with Mike Pilavachi.
