In the excitement and exhaustion of becoming parents, the first thing that can get overlooked is your relationship. You might spend less time together, argue over little things, drift apart... In the UK, one in five children see their parents separate before the end of their first year at school. Almost one in two children experience family breakdown before they finish school. But it doesn't have to be like this. Most family breakdown IS avoidable. In 'Let's Stick Together', relationship educator and father of six Harry Benson guides you through three simple habits that research shows make or break new mums and dads. Illustrated with real-life examples from Harry's own back-from-the-brink marriage and those of other couples, 'Let's Stick Together' highlights simple principles that will make your relationship the best it can be and give your children the best start.
Harry Benson is one of Britain's leading champions for marriage. As research director for Marriage Foundation, his findings are routinely cited in the media and by politicians and have made front page news on several occasions. Formerly one of the youngest Royal Navy helicopter pilots to serve in the Falklands war - about which he wrote the bestselling military history SCRAM - Harry has spent the last twenty years researching, writing and teaching about marriage and family. As founder of a Bristol charity, he taught hundreds of relationship courses to thousands of couples, including 'Let's Stick Together', a pioneering short programme for new parents evaluated by the Department for Education and delivered through NHS post-natal clinics and Surestart centres. He also co-authored influential family policy papers for the Centre for Social Justice. Harry's last book 'What Mums Want: And Dads Need To Know' - co-authored with his wife Kate - made #11 on Amazon and explains how their own back-from-the-brink experience demonstrates how marriages go wrong and what makes them go right. Harry and Kate live on a rural small holding, have been married 33 years, and have six young adult children. Hopefully that means they are doing something right!
