Brenda Hale, co-author of I Married A Soldier, has been awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List!

Brenda is a former DUP Stormont Assembly member in Northern Ireland and her OBE recognizes her political service over the past nine years. Brenda entered politics after her husband’s death. Brenda's husband, Captain Mark Hale, served with the British Army and was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.

I Married a Soldier tells Brenda's deeply moving, true story of losing her husband, Mark, in an instant while serving in Afghanistan. In the midst of the grief, distress, and financial confusion caused by Mark’s death, Brenda became determined to fight for the rights of her two daughters and their futures. Her campaigning to support bereaved forces families eventually led her into politics, where she rose to be a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly. I Married a Soldier is the powerful story of how one woman found a way through an event that threatened to crush her, by drawing on her faith in God and on a personal strength she didn’t know she had.
