Tuesday, 05 April 2016 Lion Fiction Acquires Official Tie In Book To Epic Mgm Paramount Film Ben Hur

Ben-Hur: Official Film Tie-in

Lion Fiction, an imprint of Lion Hudson plc, has acquired English language rights for UK & Europe from Tyndale House Publishers to Ben-Hur by Carol Wallace. This is the official tie-in novel to the major forthcoming MGM Paramount film, Ben-Hur, which will be released in the UK on 26th August 2016.

Ben-Hur will be published in paperback in July 2016 and will include 8 pages of colour images from the MGM film, which reportedly has a budget of over $90 million. An illustrated hardback collectors’ edition – featuring over 100 illustrations alongside film trivia and details of the history of Ben-Hur as a novel and in its various film adaptations – will also be published this summer.

This will be the third time that MGM have released a film edition of this epic tale – a black and white film was released by MGM in 1925, followed by the 1959 colour film starring Charlton Heston. The 2016 remake is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov from a screenplay written by Keith R. Clarke and John Ridley, best known for 12 Years a Slave for which he won an Academy Award in 2013. Cast members include Jack Huston, Nazanin Boniadi, Morgan Freeman, and Toby Kebbell.

Author Carol Wallace is the great-great-granddaughter of Lew Wallace, who wrote the original Ben-Hur tale (published in 1880), and is the author of To Marry An English Lord, credited by Julian Fellowes as an inspiration for the characters in Downton Abbey.

Publishing Director Andrew Hodder-Williams commented, "We are very excited to have acquired the rights to this novelization of the Ben-Hur story to accompany the release of this major new film. The ‘epic’ category is epitomized by Lew Wallace’s original novel and MGM’s adaptations have been landmarks in the history of cinema. Carol Wallace has skilfully brought this tale to life again, and we are delighted to be working with MGM Paramount and Tyndale House to bring this great story of adventure, romance and forgiveness to 21st century readers.”
