Jim Wallis and US politics
Jim has met with Democrat candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on a number of occasions (including in June 2007 - see article - but also in the last few weeks) and has asked them about their faith and the values they hold dear in life. Another presidential link comes from the fact that Jim's new book, Seven Ways to Change the World, includes a foreword from former president, Jimmy Carter.
A strong critic of George Bush, especially over the Iraq war, Wallis believes that politics in the US is 'broken' and that it is at such times as these that social movements (often led by people of faith) rise up to meet the challenges that politics alone cannot solve. This is the 'great awakening' that Jim sees in the US at the moment. At a Justice Revival event at the end of April, Jim addressed 10,000 people over 3 nights - this certainly seems to indicate a hunger for change and 'something more' among many people (see article for more details).
Jim is happy to talk about the US primaries and the political situation in the US in general, as well as the crucial role that faith should play in politics and determining public policy, and related issues.
