Kenneth Steven
KENNETH STEVEN is a versatile author who has been writing full-time for over 10 years, and currently has 20 titles in print. He grew up in Scotland and currently lives in Perthshire; the landscape and people of northern Scotland have provided inspiration for much of Kenneth's work.
Kenneth writes for both adults and children, from fiction, poetry and picture books to handbooks on the art of crafting and publishing poetry. Kenneth began writing at the age of 12 and his first novel was published when he was 16. He particularly loves the freedom that writing provides: the finding and weaving of stories and the ability to create a new world.
Kenneth frequently presents his work to adults and children. He has often been Writer in Residence in schools and in the wider community, and is available for schools work and festival appearances.
His favourite books as a child were The Chronicles of Narnia, Swallows and Amazons and The Hobbit. Besides writing, Kenneth enjoys walking, history and archaeology, and painting; a selection of his work is featured on his website.
Kenneth's first book for Lion, Imagining Things, is a light-hearted, yet reflective, collection of new poems about the natural world - both rural and urban - with underlying themes of responsibility for the world around us and wonder at creation.
Praise for Imagining Things
'This poetry book for children of upper primary age is full of stimulus to the imagination, not just in daydreaming but also in taking a fresh look at everyday life... Kenneth Steven is a poet who observes closely, so his eyes open ours to what we've missed.'
