Helen Cann

HELEN CANN has been working as an illustrator for a number of years, and is becoming increasingly well-known for her work on children’s books. She won the UK Reading Award for substantial contribution to children’s literacy for A Calendar of Festivals, on which she worked with Cherry Gilchrist. For Lion she has illustrated Who Laid the Cornerstone of the World, A Child’s Book of Celtic Prayers, Baboushka, Saint Nicholas, the award-winning The Lion Bible for Children and its companion volume, The Lion Book of Prayers for Children. Her work is influenced by decoration and design from around the world, from such diverse sources as tiles, textiles, calligraphy, furniture, jewellery and even body paint.

In her spare time, Helen enjoys walking, travelling, going to the theatre and visiting art galleries, badminton and flamenco dancing.
